Mount Langi Ghiran’s approach.  

As part of our Sustainability Action Plan and as certified members of Sustainable Wine Growing Australia (SWA), we believe that sustainability starts in the vineyard, harnessing our natural biodiversity, all whilst reducing our environmental footprint. From inception of Mount Langi Ghiran, predating our membership with SWA, the cornerstone of our management plan is the in-depth knowledge of our vines, soils, waterways and flora and fauna. Having a knowledgeable understanding of the vine makeup, to us, truly represents what sustainable longevity is.

This succinct approach allows us to adapt new methods and technologies, exploring water conservation, energy efficiency and develop closed loop relationships within packaging and recycling. From our winemaking operations to our cellar door, we continue to invest in innovative approaches and staff education to improve our environmental and social footprint, leading to a cleaner, more sustainable Mount Langi Ghiran.

Our initiatives include:

​Viticulture & Biodiversity ​

  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to minimise vineyard inputs and encourage beneficial and predator insect activity ​
  • Low humidity climate and canopy management techniques naturally protect our vines from downy mildew
  • Ongoing monitoring of soil and vine nutritional and biological health enables us to implement a curated program of organic preparations maintaining a healthy and balanced vineyard environment ​
  • Minimised machinery movements to reduce soil compaction when possible
  • Continuous logging of soil moisture to monitor and optimise irrigation inputs ​
  • Sheep for inter-vine mowing and natural fertilisation ​
  • Preservation of native forests and wetlands on our property
  • Planting local species attractive to the Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoo

Responsible Winemaking ​

  • Sustainable Winegrowing Australia membership since 2017, providing benchmarking tools and resources for planning, evaluation, and control ​
  • Type 2 Energy Audit in 2020 to evaluate overall energy consumption resulting in energy savings

Packaging & Recycling ​

  • Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation membership since 2011
  • Procurement of all dry goods (glass, cartons, dividers, caps, pallets and labels) within the Sustainable Packaging Guidelines ​
  • 100% recyclable products to consumers and use of recycled products across packaging where available ​
  • Developing closed loop relationships with suppliers and local businesses, ensuring responsible reuse or recycling
